Lysle Townsend Obituary

Lysle Theodore Townsend, 93, of Cowansville, died Monday, July 23, 2018, at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler, where he went home to be with our Lord and Savior peacefully in his sleep with his loving wife by his side, after battling a long-term, incurable illness.  He was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Maysville, Pa., to the late Foster and Sadie (Rearick) Townsend.  He lived in the area for the past 35 years. He was a retired kiln tender, working at Wean United Foundry in Vandergrift.  Lysle was a 747 MOS Mechanic in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving from 1943- 1947, during World War II. He received the Sharpshooter Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and American Theatre Medal.  He was a member of Sherrett United Methodist Church, as well as the Treasure Hunter's Club, American Legion, Country Music Association, and the VFW. Lysle enjoyed fishing, hunting, photography, gardening, Western books and movies, traveling, and auctions. He especially enjoyed spending time with close family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Rose E. (Brunner) Townsend, of Cowansville; sons, Allen (Roxann) Townsend, of Leechburg and Dale (Joni) Townsend, of Gatesville, Texas; daughters, Sherry (Craig) Cousins, of Gatesville, Texas, Lori (Ernest) Parsell, of Ford City, Nancy (Jason) Doverspike, of Cowansville, and Sharon (Dennis) Lerch, of Cowansville; sister, Dorothy (Dean) Crytzer, of Ford City; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Veda (Crytzer) Townsend; son, Terry Townsend; sisters, Marie, Adelaide, Wilberta, and Dorles; and brothers, Alva, Wesley, Lawrence, and Dale.

Lysle was a whole body donor for research and education, therefore, there can be no viewing or funeral services.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Cowansville.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lysle’s honor can be made to VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001.
