Mary Elizabeth (Davies) Hood, 80, of Worthington, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, at Heritage Meadows Personal Care Home.  She was born July 21, 1944, in Pittsburgh, to the late William and Louise Davies.  Mary was a baker at Grove City College, and a member of the Worthington Presbyterian Church, where she was involved with many church activities and Bible studies.

She enjoyed swimming, boating, gardening, the Red Hat Society, Nellie Bly Questers Chapter, watching the Steelers and baking.  She loved the water all of her life, and spent many summers at Conneaut Lake. She was a synchronized swimmer and head majorette in high school. Her happy place was their cottage in Pymatuning and having friends and family visit and kayaking.  Mary married her high school sweetheart, John Hood, Jr. on Aug. 24, 1963. They ran away to get married and spent 57 wonderful years together until his passing in 2021.

She is survived by two daughters, Kimberly (Ron) Risch, of Worthington, and Sheri Sipila, of Bremerton, Wash.; son, Jimmy (Holly) Hood, of Jackson Center, Pa.; grandsons, Ryan Risch, of Worthington, and Keith (Hannah) Risch, of Worthington; granddaughters: Kelly (Jonathan) Dawson, of Indianapolis, Ind., Madison (Hunter Prosper) Hood, of Pittsburgh and MaKenna Hood, of Jackson Center, Pa.; sister, Nancy Allwes, of Maineville, Ohio; brother-in-law, John Durica, of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Hood, Jr.; grandson, Jakob Hood; son-in-law, Jack Sipila; and sister, JoAnn Durica.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at the Worthington Presbyterian Church, 197 Linton St., Worthington, with Pastor Robert Hindman officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary's honor to the Mission Committee at the Worthington Presbyterian Church.  Funeral arrangements are under the care of the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home in Worthington.
