Nellie "Madge" Walter Obituary

Nellie “Madge” Walter, 99, of Kittanning, completed her earthly journey on Saturday, February 13, 2021, at home surrounded by her family. She was a devout Christian and a devoted mother to her children and a dedicated grandmother to three generations of grandchildren. 

Madge was the daughter of Frank M. and Nellie Madge (Fleming) Toy. She married William Walter on November 28, 1939. Madge and Bill had 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. 

Madge is survived by her daughters Nel Walter, Sandy Brumbaugh and Linda (Blair) Hooks. Grandsons Scott (Jodi) Gray and Brian Gray; granddaughters Lisa Pongratz, Julie Walter, Becky (Mitchell) Smith, Vickie (Ken White) Walter, Christy Walter, Mindy (Bill) Schreckengost , Shelley (Keith) Serene and Tracy Futscher. 

Great Grandchildren; Melayna Pongratz, Jensen Gray, Cody Martinez, Jace Wolfe, Shawn (Keely) Smith, Karra (Jake) Vance, Justin White, Kelsey & Brianna Jordan, Jess Kaufman, Dani (Jacob) Bowser, Toby (fiancé Lex) Schreckengost, Josh (Laura) Serene, Angelena & Kain Acierno, Alissa (Aaron) Atwood, Jessa (Josh) Reitler, Alexa (Aaron) Markle, Colton (Tina) Futscher. 

Great-great-grandchildren: Julia Jordan, Brynlee Vance, Lainey & Nova Bowser, Torin & Paxin Atwood, Banks Reitler, Remi & Hook Futscher and Paisley Barnett. 

Sisters- Patricia Toy Kovacovsky, Dora Toy (Dick) Tarr, Debbie Toy Irwin and brother; Blaine Toy. 

She will be profoundly missed but her family rejoices in her union with her Lord and Savior and the reunion with her cherished family members who preceded her; husband, William Walter Sr; daughter; Joan and son in law Paul Gray; son William “Bill” walter Jr.; son-in-law Ronald “Butch” Brumbaugh; granddaughter, Beth Diane Brumbaugh; great grandchildren, Cody William and Kiley Sue Schreckengost; sisters Dorothy Mae Toy, Charlotte Yount, Emogene Walls; and brothers: Truman Toy, Samuel Toy, Russell Toy and Everett Toy. 

Madge was a treasured member of the Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church family for much of her life. She provided her family and friends with a remarkable example of the Christian attributes found in one of her well-liked Bible verses, Galatians 5:22, 23. madge “Grammy” consistently and sincerely demonstrated love, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. 

She will be missed 

Following a private service officiated by Pastor Mike Bowser in the Salem Walkchalk Baptist Church, Madge will be laid to rest next to her husband at Lawn Haven Burial Estates. All funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Madge’s memory to the Deacon and/or American Baptist Women Fund(s) at Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church, 1006 Butler Rd., Kittanning, PA 16201.
