Peggy Jane (Mechling) Calano

Peggy Jane (Mechling) Calano, 97, of Kittanning, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024.  She was born to James and Maria (Hodson) Mechling.  She was married to her husband, Benjamin Calano, for 68 years until his death on May 24, 2014.  Peggy attended Kittanning High School.  After high school, she worked at the Leather Factory in Kittanning and Big River Manufacturing, where she retired from.  Peggy liked to go to her daughter’s in Las Vegas, where they went to the casinos.  She was an avid Steelers fan and she liked to go out on the river in her son’s pontoon boat.  She was happiest around her family.  

Peggy is survived by her son, David (Sandy) Calano, of Kittanning; her daughter, Suzette Aki, of Las Vegas; granddaughter, Michele Aki, of Las Vegas; grandson, Barry (Teri) Aki, of Hatch, Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to her loving husband, Benjamin, Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Kelly Mechling and James Mechling; sisters, Nellie Cogley, Lois Hill, Maude Crawford and Lome Sheasley; and her son-in-law, Barry Aki.  

The family would like to thank the employees at Kittanning Health & Rehab, especially the aids because they are the heroes that showed mom kindness.  God bless them all.  

As per Peggy’s wishes, there was no visitation or services.  Private burial took place at Lawn Haven Burial Estates on June 25, 2024.
