Obituary

Robert Edward Freeman, age 86, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023 after a brief illness.  He was born in Bridgeburg on February 4, 1937 to Clark (Mutt) and Laura “Ruby” (Hooks) Freeman.  He moved to Kittanning in 1979 and remained a lifelong resident of the area.  Bob graduated from Kittanning High School.  He worked for Hawes Refractories in Bridgeburg, JK Davidson River Plant, bridge construction, and retired from Iselin Preparation Plant in Homer City.  Bob was an avid hunter, harvesting 39 bucks in his lifetime. He loved turkey and bear hunting too, but never got a bear.  Trout fishing was another passion.  He enjoyed going to his camps in Marienville and Benezette, cooking, baseball, NASCAR and spending time with friends and family.  He was a wonderful caregiver to his father and mother until they passed, and also nursed his brother back to health after a lengthy illness.  Bob served in the Army from 1960 to 1962, stationed in El Paso, Texas. He loved telling stories about his many adventures there, particularly with his buddy, Joe Buscher, of Iowa.

Bob is survived by his niece, Debbie (Kevin) Sanders, of Kittanning and nephews, Randy (Jamie) Freeman, of Worthington and Michael (Landa) Freeman, of McGrann. He will also be greatly missed by his great-nephews and great-nieces: Shawn (Justine) Freeman, Kyle (Catie) Freeman, C.J. (Becky) Sanders, Nicholas Sanders and Sandy Freeman, as well as their children. He is also survived by a special cousin, Bobby Whited, of Ohio and his Army buddy, Joseph Buscher, of Iowa.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ronald Freeman; and sister-in-law, Sandy Freeman. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also passed before him.

The family would like to thank all of the nurses at ACMH, Allegheny General Hospital, Allegheny Valley Hospital and his hospice nurse, Carla Atherton, from Medi Home Care for the excellent care he received throughout his illness.

Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home, 119 Bear St., Worthington, PA.  Additional visitation will be held on Friday, May 26, at Furnace Run Chapel, 154 Montgomery Rd., Kittanning, PA from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. with his nephew, Shawn Freeman, officiating.  Burial will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates in Worthington, PA.
