Rose Gaggini Freeman, age 96, of West Kittanning, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at QLS Sugar Creek. She was born on March 31, 1928, daughter of late Premo and Josephine (Vezzani) Gaggini of Furnace Run. Rose was a graduate of Kittanning High School class of 1945, and the beloved wife of the late Jim (Jug Head) Freeman of 53 years. Prior to her retirement from Ringgold Coal Mining Company in 1988, she worked at Allegheny River Mining Company (1945-1951) – Harry B. Culley & Company. Rose was an active member of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe in Kittanning. she served on the Parish Council for three (3) terms, was a cantor for 17 years, a member of the cleaning crew and volunteered for many church functions. She was Secretary of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and served as Secretary, Board Member, and volunteered for the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store and food bank in Kittanning. She served on the Election Board of the West Kittanning Boro and was known as the Daffodil Lady for her involvement with selling Daffodils for the American Cancer Society. Rose loved all sports, especially all the Pittsburgh teams. She enjoyed bowling, golf, and softball. She was instrumental in girl’s youth softball in the 70’s and 80’s. She loved gardening and shared her bounty with family, friends, and neighbors.
She was Aunt Rose to many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Rose was the last surviving member of her family and was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Also, her brothers and sisters and spouses, Guido & (Annie) Gaggini, Bud & (Maude) Gaggini, Aline (Sam) Angelo, Almeda (Andy) Gill, Louise (Butch) Panzarello, Velma (Dick) Long, and brother-in-law, Jack (Gale) Freeman.
Family and friends will be received from noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024 at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning, Pa. Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. until time of Parting Prayers at 10.30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Kittanning with the Very Reverend Eric J. Dinga, V.F. as celebrant. Interment will follow in Lawn Haven Burial Estates. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincents DePaul or Kittanning Food Bank in Memory of Rose Freeman.
