Russell E. Snyder

Russell E. Snyder, 93, died Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Sugar Creek Personal Care Home in Worthington, PA. He was born May 6, 1930, to W. James and Freda (Boltz) Snyder in Cowansville, PA, over the Snyder funeral home established by his grandfather. Russell was a graduate of Kittanning High School Class of 1948 and participated in many reunion events over the years. He served in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1951. He was a member of Union First Presbyterian Church in Cowansville, where he served as an elder and managed the cemetery. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Kittanning East Brady Lodge No. 244 and New Castle Consistory. Russell was employed as a sales manager by Montgomery Ward for 39 years. He and his wife Joanne were married for 68 years before her death in November 2021. They traveled throughout the United States and Europe and hosted a trip to Ireland in September 2001. They were also avid square dancers and attended state and national conventions. In addition, Russell’s hobbies included reading, especially history, coin collecting, and furniture refinishing. He instilled a love of books and antiques in his children. He is survived by his children, J. Dwight Snyder, Celeste Ehrhardt, Shelley (Steve) Cook, Andrea (David) McPherson; grandchildren Laura (Scott) Haslett, Brandon (Christiana) Ehrhardt, Amanda (Tom Bambara) Ehrhardt; and great-grandsons Ethan Kepple, Spencer Kepple, and newborn Leo Bambara. He was preceded in death by his wife Joanne and his son in-law Edward Ehrhardt.

Friends and family will be received at 10:00 am on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Union First Presbyterian Church in Cowansville, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am. Private burial to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Union First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 217, Cowansville, PA 16218.
