Sally Moody Obituary

Sally Lee (Hileman) Moody, 90, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021 in her Applewold residence. She was born November 2, 1930 in Ford City, PA, to Harold Rosenberry Hileman and Margaret Elizabeth (Shriver) Hileman. She was raised in Dogtown, was a proud Duck Cheerleader, and was crowned Miss Armstrong County.  She graduated from Ford City High School in 1947 and then attended nursing school for a short time. She left nursing school because she was lovesick. She and her high school sweetheart, Bob Moody, eloped to Winchester, VA, where they were, most fittingly, married by Rev. Clark, a Baptist minister. That marriage lasted 61 years until the time of his death. Bob and Sally had five daughters, Sally, Robin, Dana, Melissa, and Michelene. They later adopted and raised a grandson, Christopher.

Sally was a devout Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church in Kittanning. She loved God, knew her bible from front to back, and served her church family by teaching Sunday School for over 60 years. She led many committees and sent countless cards to church members.  She valued community service and served as President of the Applewold Borough Council, President of the Armstrong County Community Action Board, and as a committeewoman of the Armstrong County Democratic Party. Sally was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Fort Hand Chapter.  Sally was very involved in her children’s’ lives as a Brownie, Girl Scout, and PTA leader. Being an excellent seamstress, she made her daughters’ clothes, prom gowns, majorette and drill team uniforms. She had fun making the Halloween costumes for the grandchildren.  Sally did various jobs throughout her life. She worked at the ASD Curriculum Center, Lawrence’s Jewelry Store, and Shopper’s Mart; in her later years, she volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul.

Bob and Sally, both only children, thought it was important to create a large, loving family who would be there to support each other throughout their lives.  The family includes their five daughters, Sally (Ed) Walbert of Ford City, Robin (Edd) Lemmon of Applewold, Dana (Danny) Shaffer of Kittanning, Dr. Melissa (Rodney) Denardo of Aiken, SC, Michelene (Sean) Stein of Ford City, and their adopted grandson, Christopher of Applewold.  Sally was blessed with 12 grandchildren including Lacy Walbert, Andy Walbert, Erica (Jeff) Bowser, Brettlyn (Catalin) Toma, Todd (Tara) Lemmon, Cammie (Brian) Moncak, Robin Shaffer, Lisa Shaffer, Rodney (Nicole) Denardo, Tony (Margaret) Denardo, Tucker (Mel) Barrett, and Jessie Claypoole; and 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Moody, who died on May 14, 2010; her parents, Howard R. (Hick) and Margaret (Betty) Hileman; and her grandparents, Nelle Carr and Howard Hileman, and Maude Newell and Lafayette Shriver, and Trent Barrett, great grandson.

Her body, by her request, was donated to Humanity Gifts Registry Medical and Dental Schools for teaching purposes.  Friends are invited to a Memorial Service honoring Sally's life that will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kittanning on Sunday, May 23, at 2 p.m. with Rev.
