Seymour A. Harter, known to all as "Sonny," age 88, of Kittanning, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025. He was born on July 10, 1936, to Harry and Mary Harter and was raised in West Kittanning. In 1958, Sonny married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Harter (Lemmon), with whom he shared a lifetime of love and devotion. Together, they embarked on many adventures, including various small business ventures and spending time camping at Indian Brave Campground with family in their later years. Their greatest accomplishment was raising their children. Sonny and Barb built their lives on a strong foundation of faith, and he felt a deep responsibility to ensure that his children and grandchildren knew the love of Jesus.
Sonny ( Pappy) had a kind and loving heart, always putting his family first. He was a devoted husband, a caring father, and a proud grandfather. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing and hunting in his younger years. A proud veteran, Sonny honorably served his country in the Korean War. He dedicated most of his life to working as a contractor, leaving a lasting impact through his hard work and craftsmanship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Harter; his sister, Clara "Cy" Younkins; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Allen and Juanita Lemmon; and his infant son, Douglas Seymour Harter.
Sonny is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara "Mimi" Harter; his loving children, Amy Burns and her husband, Ronald; Joanie Kunselman and her husband, Mike; and Andrew Harter. He was a proud grandfather to Christy Burns; Tyler Burns and his wife, Kristen; Zachary Burns and his wife, Brandi; Taylor Burns; Peyton Harter; Michael Kunselman and his wife, Sarah; Landon Kunselman; and Katelynn Andrews and her husband, Kevin. He was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Hayden, Abby, Ava, Jameson, Ezra, Elias, Isabel, Gabriella, and Emerson "Sonny."
Sonny’s legacy of faith, love, and dedication to family will be cherished forever. Funeral services will be privately held by the family and the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning, Interment will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates.
