Susan Kathleen (Heilman) Silvis

     Susan Kathleen (Heilman) Silvis, 78, of Dayton, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at her residence surrounded by family.  She was born August 23, 1942 to Robert and Martha Heilman and was a lifelong resident of the area.  She and her husband, Robert C. Silvis, were the owners and operators of Silvis and Son Meat Packing since 1975.  Sue was a member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church and spent much of her time birdwatching, gardening, painting gourds, and researching family genealogy.  Her happiest times were those spent with family, from hunting and fishing trips, to cookouts back at camp, to holidays spent around her table.  She will be greatly missed, especially by her faithful dog, Willow. 

     As the matriarch of the family, Sue instilled in each family member the values of hard work, boundless generosity, unconditional love, and faith in the Lord. Her memory will be forever cherished by her sons, Jeffrey Todd Silvis and his companion, Tina, of Kittanning, Robert Maxwell Silvis and his wife, Mary, of Kittanning, Jonathan Lee Silvis and his wife, Ronna, of Kittanning, and Andrew Duane Silvis, of Dayton; daughters, Julianne Renee Silvis, of Dayton, and Christina Lynn Koss and her husband, Mike, of Dayton; grandchildren, Chase Silvis, Bob, Sean, and Phillip Silvis, Heather Landstrom, Ashley Elwood, Alison Gervasoni, Adam Silvis, and Whitney Pennington; great-grandchildren, Lennon and Abel Silvis, Estelle, Norah, and Noelle Landstrom, Jaxon and Analise Elwood, Nathaniel Silvis, and Ethan Gervasoni; and her sister, Jeanne Kendall, of Louisville, KY.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert C. Silvis, her daughter-in-law Wanda Silvis, and her grandson Harry Silvis.

There will be a private service for immediate family members held at a later date.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Sue’s honor to Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning, Pa.
