Theodore “Ted” Geidel, Jr. Obituary

Theodore (Ted) F. Geidel, Jr. of Kittanning (Cowansville) entered into joyful eternal rest at his residence on Saturday, March 14th, surrounded by his family.  He was born on June 3, 1939, the son of Theodore and Ethel (Bittinger) Geidel, who both preceded him in death.  He married Sue Gascoine on August 15, 1959, who survives. Together they had two children, Stephanie (George) Weaver of Tyrone, PA and Stephen (Teresa) Geidel of Cowansville, PA who also survive.  He had a lot of titles over the years, but none brought him greater joy than “Poppy”.  He is survived by grandchildren Joshua, Matthew, Daniel and Michael Geidel who all reside in Cowansville,Jennifer Hogenmiller of Chicora, PA and Keri (John) Cerutti of Ford City, PA. Also surviving are eight great grandchildren, brother Alan (Cindy) Geidel of Kittanning and four nieces and nephews.  His sister Pauline Cannonie preceded him in death.

Ted (to those on the western side of the Allegheny) or Freddy (on the east) worked his entire career for Kittanning Freeport Brick where upon retirement in 2002 he served as the Quality Control Manager. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, tractors, photography, geology, coin-collecting, audio-visual work, woodworking, solving (hard) Sudoku and crossword puzzles, and could fix pretty much anything. “Poppy fix it” was a phrase echoed among the grandchildren.  Community service and volunteerism were important to him.  He was a member ofthe Union First Presbyterian Church in Cowansville and served there as an Elder, was for a time the financial secretary, and for many years oversaw the running of the audio and visual equipment for services.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home at 832 E. Brady Rd., Cowansville, PA.  Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 10am-11am until the time of the funeral and committal service at 11am, with the Rev. Dennis Molnar, pastor of Union First Presbyterian Church officiating. Ted will be laid to rest at the Pleasant Union Cemetery, Rural Valley, PA.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made in Ted’s memory to the Union First Presbyterian Church of Cowansville or a charity of your choice.
