William Yount Obituary

William Harold Yount, 93, of Cowansville, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Butler Memorial Hospital.  Born April 23, 1927 in Cowanshannock, he was a son of the late Arlie and Ella Elizabeth (Beckwith) Yount.  He was a meat cutter for the A&P for 45 years, where he was the head manager of the meat department.  He was a member of the First Church of God in Kittanning.  William was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII.  He spent many years in the Armstrong County Honor Guard.  He was very active in the American Legion in Cowansville, where he formerly served as treasurer.  He started the American Legion breakfast, making all the maple syrup, buckwheat cakes, and sausage homemade.  William was a founding member of the Hilltop Beagle Club in Cowansville, serving as president and treasurer throughout the years.  He loved running his beagles and had many trophies and ribbons to show for it.  He had three field champion beagles but his first champion, ‘Woody’, was his favorite.  William also enjoyed bowling with his wife and golfing.  One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on the back porch with his wife, Peg, and watching his orchard and garden and the deer come in.  Most of all, he loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left behind to cherish his memory includes, his wife of 72 years, Margaret Joanne (Rumbaugh) Yount; daughter, Ellie Joanne (Millard ‘Sonny’) Matthews, of Chino, CA and her children, Keri Lynn (Manny) Rosales and Tiffany Matthews, and grandchildren, Makayla and Riley Rosales, all of CA; daughter, Brenda Lynn (David) Harris, of New Hampshire, and her children, William Charlie (Christina) Harris, of CA and Justin Harris, of New Hampshire, and grandchildren, Kaylee Lynn Harris and Alexander Kennedy Harris, of CA; son-in-law, Ken McPherson, of Kittanning and his children, Ken (Kelly) McPherson Jr., of Alabama, Theresa Lynn (Douglas) Emminger, of South Carolina, and Shawn Michael (Lisa) McPherson, of Cranberry Twp., and grandchildren, Ken ‘Trey’ McPherson III, Jamie, Phillip, Nathan, Isaac, and Andrew Emminger, and Carly and Katlyn McPherson; two sisters, Hannah Cloak and Joann Crawford, of Armstrong County; and numerous nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Diane McPherson; and sons, James William and Johnny Yount.

Private services were held at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning with Rev. Cecil Toy officiating followed by entombment in the mausoleum at Lawn Haven Burial Estates in Worthington with Military Honors.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in William’s honor to the American Legion Post #325, P.O.
