Wilmer L. Luke

Wilmer Laird Luke, 92, of Kittanning, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. He was born June 26, 1919, in New Kensington, a son of the late Harry Wilmer Luke and Bella Katherine (Zimmerman) Luke. Wilmer was a retired glass worker from PPG in Ford City. He served in the Army during World War II in the North African Theater. He was a wheelchair attendant for Franklin D. Roosevelt for a conference in North Africa. Wilmer was a member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in Templeton, where he was an elder. He was the last surviving charter member of the Rayburn Township Vol. Fire Department. He was a member of the Kittanning Eagles, American Legion Post 122, where he was a past commander, VFW Post 863 in Kittanning, Armstrong County Fireman's Association and the Western Pennsylvania Fireman's Association, Pennsylvania State Fireman's Association, Armstrong County Fire Police Association and the American Legion Honor Guard. Wilmer is survived by his sons, James R. Luke, of Kittanning, Michael E. Luke, of Kittanning, Douglas W. Luke, of Adrian, Turney K. (Lori) Luke, of Kittanning, and Todd B. (Ronica) Luke, of Worthington; daughters, Sandra L. (Robert) Raymer, of Templeton, Carol A. (Leonard) Cravenor, of Ford City, and Beth A. (Kenneth) Cypher, of Germany; seven granddaughters, Heather A. (Greg) Hileman, April E. Cravenor and her fiancee, Josh Gibson, Tiffany D. (Andrew) Graham, Kelsey L. Luke, Sabrine M. Cypher, Miranda J. Cypher and Mackensie A. Cypher; three grandsons, Tyler E. Luke, Chad A. Cravenor and Derek T. Luke; two great-grandsons, Zayden C. Gibson and Koda J. Gibson; two great-granddaughters, Madelyn Paige Graham and Ella Mae Hileman; three stepgranddaughters, Luci Morda, Hannah Morda and Elsie Morda; and sister, Margaret C. Adams, of Dayton. In addition to his parents, Wilmer was preceded in death by his wife, Martha L. (Claypool) Luke, who died June 4, 2000; and brothers, Elmer John Luke and Clarence Thomas Luke. Friends will be received 7-9pm on Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME in Kittanning with the Rev. David Murphy officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Templeton. Memorial contributions may be made in Wilmer's honor to the Rayburn Township Vol. Fire Department, 102 Water Tower Road, Kittanning, PA 16201.
