Joseph Roy Dannels

Joseph Roy Dannels 81, of Wattersonville, died Friday April 22, 2016 at his residence. He was born Oct. 21, 1934, in McKeesport to Joseph S. and Virginia (Swearinger) Dannels. Joseph was employed for 32 years at Comsteck Engineering Co., Inc., where started as a draftsman and worked his way through the organization to become director of European Operations. He retired as president and CEO in 1992, when he became involved in extensive community service organizations. He was a member of the Wattersonville United Methodist Church, where he served as the Administrative Chair Person and president. He also volunteered at Haven House, served as the president of the Wattersonville Cemetery Association, and was a member of the Armstrong County Industrial Development Authority and Armstrong County Community Foundation Board of Directors. He received the Volunteer Citizen of the year award for the Armstrong County Chamber of Commerce for a number of years. He was also a member of the Free Masons and the American Legion. Joseph served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Nancy J. (Platt) Dannels; son Robert A. (Karen Meyer) Dannels Asthabula, Ohio; daughters Cheryl L. (Scott) Sunday and Lisa A. (Bernardo) Marrese, both of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren Cody Dannels, Hutch Dannels, Reno Dannels, Shawna (Cole Durica) Sunday, Cecily (Guillaume Aguilina) Sunday, Jacob Sunday, Dimitri Marrese, Amara Marrese and Mattea Marrese; sisters Carol (Bill) Britton of Palm Coast, Fla., and Nancy Watt of Wattersonville; and sisters in-law Shirley (Lindauer) Dannels of State College, and Beverly (Dannels) Tyreman of Tucson, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers James W. Dannels and Robert A. Dannels; and brother-in-law, the Rev. Robert Watt. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m., Monday, at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 South McKean St., Kittanning. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the Wattersonville United Methodist Church, 115 Friendly Lane, Cowansville, with the Rev. Debbie Marshall officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joseph’s honor to the Wattersonville United Methodist Church at 115 Friendly Lane Cowansville, Pa., 16218.
