Dear Nancy,
We were so saddened to hear of Joe's passing. I (Ed) have many gratifying memories of the years Joe and I worked together on the Northpointe project. I met Joe shortly before you built your house, and shortly after that -- while not really knowing him well -- I asked for a favor. That favor was promptly granted when Comstock hired a young engineering graduate from Poland who was having difficulty finding his first job. This young man became a very successful engineer who is now living the America dream. That's the kind of guy Joe was.
With deepest sympathy, Ed & Marti Kubatko

Mr. Dannels was a very kind and generous man I only met him a couple of times, being a first cousin to Nondo the entire family was just wonderful. I saw him the last time when he came to my uncle Joe's funeral and he always had a wonderful smile and funny laugh that made you want to laugh with him. From my heart I send my condolences and regret not being able to be there to support your family but know I will have all of you in my prayers. I want to thank you for keeping us in your prayers with my mother's passing recently. From the entire Caruso family.

A truly great gentleman. I worked with him on civil war headstone replacements years ago. Very helpful, kind and knowledgeable. He will be missed. Please accept Ellen and my prayers in this time of sorrow.

Nancy and family
You are in our prayers - we were so sorry to hear about Joe. We have so many good memories of our families together up at your cabin. Joe was always the life of the party and willing to help with anything we needed. I still remember him coming over in the middle of the night at the house on Taft to kill a centipede for me! And the celebrations you hosted for our family through the years are some of our favorite memories. We cherish your friendship.
Love to you all. Art and Mary Ann

That being said...personally, I will always remember the descriptive visual of Joe chasing the bear off the porch.

The first thing that came to mind when I heard was that I will never forget his extreme kindness. Years back, when I was working at Comstock, my mother was in the hospital. I received some unexpected news and his secretary Ruth said something to him. He rode me over to the hospital and later came back and rode me back to town. I am so sad to hear of his passing and my heartfelt sympathy to his family.
