Lilian M. "Snook" (Garmong) Atwood, 71, of Kittanning, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, with her family by her side. She was born March 11, 1942, in Logansport, to the late John and Lilian (Yount) Schmilla. She was a lifelong resident of the local area. Lilian was a homemaker and enjoyed doing puzzle books, sitting on the porch and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Traci Atherton and her companion, Mark Schrecongost, of Kittanning; son, Kevin (Gwen) Atwood, of Parker; grandchildren, Alicia Toy, of Maryland, Eric (Brandi) Atherton, of Kittanning, Alexandria Atwood and her companion, Matt Gagliano, of Clarion, Colby Atwood, of Parker, Sarah Atwood, of Parker, and Kyle Atwood, of Kittanning; four great-grandsons, Noah, Ryder and Bentley Atherton, of Kittanning, and Broc Gagliano, of Clarion; brother, Anthony (Doris) Schmela, of Kittanning; sisters, Melanie (Dave) Petrosky, of Ford City, and Suzanne (James) Troup, of Ford City; numerous nieces; nephews; and cousins. In addition to her parents, Lilian was preceded in death by her husband, Edward D. Atwood, to whom she was married to for 50 years; and a brother, Ralph Garmong Jr. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at the KENNEDY and BLODGETT FUNERAL HOME, Kittanning. Services will begin at 11 a.m., in the funeral home, with an additional visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Lloyd Riggle will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter, 11878 State Route 85, Kittanning, PA 16201; or to the Alzheimer's Association, 1101 Old Salem Road, Greensburg, PA 15601.
